"I think the commercial was excellent, in that it recommended MEN sharing the burden of birth control."

Take a look at this ad that someone posted on Facebook. Its kind of funny (although hardly the funniest ever) at one level.

Now think about this. The ad is European (some Scandinavian country, I'm not sure which), the continent where the birth rate of Europeans is so low they aren't replacing the adult population. Now how funny is it that the ad portrays parenthood as such a hell you should never breed?

This guy clearly is hapless as a parent, he doesn't seem to know what to do (or have a voice) and I'd be the first to agree that some people should never have kids, but that's not the point of the ad. The point is "children are hell, never have one." And it doesn't seem to be advertising anything except condom use, not a specific product. Its a command to not have children, rather than learn to discipline them. Its like a propaganda piece from Muslim immigrants: stop breeding so we take over.

Of course if that father gave his kid the whupping he deserves, he'd be hauled before an EU tribunal on human rights, so there is that to consider.
