"And, oh yes, the most identifiably Jewish owner in sports. Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft are all upstanding citizens, moral exemplars in their home communities, but in this Oberammergau of the Rockies, they are playing the role of Pilate."

Tebow Praying
You've probably seen commentary on this by now. In The Jewish Week, Rabbi Joshua Hammerman wrote a bigoted, hate-filled screed all about how Christians are one Super Bowl away from murdering Jews in the streets and how Tim Tebow represents the last best hope of the foaming lunatics in the religious right. The piece was so outrageous and offensive that Jewish Week edited out one particularly offensive paragraph:
If Tebow wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful, and emboldened faithful can do insane things, like burning mosques, bashing gays and indiscriminately banishing immigrants. While America has become more inclusive since Jerry Falwell’s first political forays, a Tebow triumph could set those efforts back considerably.
and has now just disappeared the piece altogether. Ace at his HQ wrote a particularly effective takedown of the opinion bit, and I have no doubt Jews around the world are shaking their heads, muttering "schmuck" about this idiot rabbi, whose religion appears to be more Marx than Talmud.

Originally I was just going to let it slide, since plenty of people have written about this and it was so transparently idiotic and horrible it didn't require any commentary. But after considering the bit for a while, I've come to a conclusion that helps explain what on earth this guy was thinking.

President Obama's idiotic middle eastern policy, especially regarding Israel, is causing him to rapidly hemorrhage Jewish voters. This isn't a gigantic voting bloc, but its significant enough to cost an election, and he needs these guys if he has a hope of winning in 2012.

So crank up the left's machine and start getting that fear factor going. Jews have to be rounded up and put back on the Democrat plantation, and Rabbi Hammerman rides to the rescue with one of what I expect will be many efforts to convince Jews that while Democrats apparently don't like Israel, Republicans are one jackboot away from building Auschwitz. Democrats have done well by terrifying minority groups such as blacks and Jews in America, convincing them that Republicans aren't just wrong but evil and oppressive, the cause of all horrors in the past. And especially they've been good at making Jews think Christians are lusting after medieval pogroms once more.

So here we go, with this and many more columns and news bits to come. Will it work? I don't know, its hard to avoid the impression that for American Jews, leftist ideology is their true religion.

Just for the record, I don't know any Christian who dislikes Jews, or that thinks Tebow is some great hero. Most are pretty dismayed at the hate being piled on this guy just for showing his faith in Jesus, but feel no special allegiance to a football player.
