Well the US without Alaska and Hawaii is 3,119,884.69 square miles

The area of Australia (why they include Tasmania I'm not sure) is 2,970,000 square miles so yeah, you're right. When you add in the last 2 states the US is 3,794,083 square miles, which is about 40% bigger.

Still, I liked the comparison.
